Runaway Bay Village Shopping Centre

For those visiting the Gold Coast by water, I would recommend Runaway Bay Village Shopping Centre, just to the north of the Seaway. It has some pontoons and a "welcome" sign right at the Centre by a coffee shop. Runaway Bay Village Shopping Centre has all 3 supermarkets and Target etc, a large centre. A big thumbs up. A good anchorage a few hundred meters away against South Stradbroke Island. Australia Fair and Southport have a wide variety of shops and services too but the dinghy tying up situation there is difficult - an exposed public jetty, or a tidal beach.

Entrance via the Seaway is pretty straightforward and no real challenge in the right conditions however caution must be exercised , after all it is still and ocean seaway with a very fast tidal stream.

Once inside head to port to the anchorage at Marine Stadium (aka Bums Bay ) just near the VMR base and a little north of Seaworld can get pretty packed on the weekend and at holiday however this is the Gold Coast right !

Restaurants , cafes , Sea World , and the world famous ocean beaches are all easily accessed on foot once you land the dinghy.

The evening skyline is pretty impressive also !

Versace , Marina Mirage & Southport Yacht club all offer casual berthing for visitors .
