Evans Head Anchorage

Only shoal draft vessels can anchor in the river, keep out of the way of the fishing trawlers. Evans Head Fishermans Co-op may have berths (Ph: 02 6682 4206) between 8am and 2pm. You will most likely be directed to a berth on the river side where there is water but no power. Toilets and cold showers are in the park nearby.

In Evans Head there are two supermarkets, butchers, bakeries, cafes, a chemist, hardware store, laundromat, etc. They are all a short walk away. Diesel may be available at the Fish Co-op, petrol is a fair walk to the other side of town.

Exploring the Evans Head NSW bolthole

Looking back, Evans Head was a delightful stop over and we can thoroughly recommend it but the bar has a bit of a reputation as it is shallow. As I stated earlier, it is always prudent to check with the local marine rescue before you cross any bar and to cross on a rising tide towards the top of the tide. But if the conditions are good, as they were for us, you have the depth available for your draft and you have time to spare (as in our case, as we couldn’t get back over the bar for a week) then I suggest you give it a go...
