I wouldn't touch most of the big name boat insurance companies with my spinnaker pole

I recently bought a quite old but very sound 28 foot sailing boat second hand. After initially reacting very positively, the insurer that had insured the vessel for the previous owner declined to insure it for me once the sale price was disclosed. The boat had been surveyed less than two years previously and all the boat, contents, tools and equipment had been valued at that time, however the low sale price was the sticking point. Tip! Don't bargain a second hand yacht price down too hard, regardless of market forces. Strangely almost all the other insurers rejected my request for a quote, even before all the details were disclosed. It was almost as if there had been collusion, but I'm sure that could not be the case. I did insure the boat as it turned out, with Youi, for a cost that was very reasonable. I wouldn't touch most of the big name boat insurance companies with my spinnaker pole.
