No Fuss and Saved $$$

I needed to re-insure our 38' yacht we are coastal sailors. I shopped around and Topsail's quote was $1000 less then who I had it insured with previously. The conditions of the policy are similar or better in every regard. The staff were professional, they were quick to return calls and the whole change over was painless and the savings speak for themselves.

Extremely professional experience

Reviewed Sep 2016
I too have become a Topsail Insurance customer. As mentioned elsewhere, I have been trying to get coverage since our dismasting, hard fought claim settlement, and consequent refit. To our surprise, despite the condition of our relaunched boat, most of the insurance companies we contacted were not interested in underwriting once we shared the information of our recent claim (the only one in 33 years of cruising). We were able to get 2 quotes, one with a company with which we were formerly insured, at 50% higher premium, seemingly ignoring all the refit work (including all new rig and sails) attested to by the new survey. Topsail which advertises in the Flying Fish/ Ocean Cruising Club's Journal, did not really cross my radar until I read the post above. I contacted them and found it an extremely professional experience. I hope that I never need to go through the claim experience again, but should it happen, I am left with the impression that things may go better next time. Did I mention that the premium is less than before?

We were able to get a big decrease in premium

Reviewed Nov 2016
We have been living aboard for 4 years and until we found TopSail we found ourselves changing our insurance broker each year because the insurance companies wanted to maintain or increase our premium even though (as new boat owners) the risk of insuring us was decreasing dramatically as our experience was growing.

With the other insurance companies we had worked with, changes to our annual float plan always resulted in increases in premium. Even when the change resulted in reduced risk.

Topsail was totally different. They refunded almost half (!!!) of our premium last year when we had to make dramatic changes to our float plan as a result of my wife becoming pregnant. In fact, the reduction was so much that we were able to pay this year's premium and have some left over to be refunded to us.

Another thing they did for us was to increase our deductible with a corresponding decrease in premium. We are primarily interested in insurance for catastrophic loss and not coverage for non-catastrophic loss: i.e., we _don't_ want coverage for loss of our dinghy. By increasing our deductible with Topsail, we were able to get a big decrease in premium.

Having said all this, we have not actually filed claims with Topsail, so that side of things is not something I can comment on.
