Grow your own Seawind 1000
Reviewed Nov 2016
Our much loved, but often neglected, 2001 Seawind 1000 was long overdue for some major work. When a friend advised that he was planning to have his hulls extended (as was done to make the Seawind 1000XL/XL2 series) I thought that I might do the same. Craig Humphries and his team at Signature Yacht Services have a proven track record doing this type of work and they have a reputation for delivering a quality product at a most reasonable price.
Yes - they are based at The Boat Works (Gold Coast) and we do live on Lake Macquarie but it was a no brainer for us to decide to take the boat up. We are very glad that we did.
I have commented elsewhere that The Boat Works is a pretty amazing place with fantastic facilities and wide range of marine services all working together to create the very best outcome for the owner and their boat.
The owner of Signature, Craig Humphries, is a passionate catamaran sailor who has gathered together a team of highly professional, and equally passionate, craftsmen who take great pride in their work. They were always happy to offer advice and I was very happy to be guided by their suggestions. Yes - we ended up doing a lot more work than initially planned but replacing a through hull that was like a metal sponge is not a bad thing! Similarly, dropping the rudders was a bit of a rude shock as it revealed a fair bit of shaft corrosion. Nice to know when it is such a critical system! They know their boats and hence their advice was always entirely relevant to my boat and situation.
The main job was the hull extensions which were designed and built to our exact specifications. We are more than happy with the outcome as they have increased our speed and made it much much easier to get on and off both a jetty and our inflatable dinghy. Did I mention that you can now sit in a directors chair on the new transom platform and either fish or just watch the world go by? Not too bad for a 10m boat!
In conclusion, I have no hesitation in recommending Signature Yacht Services to anyone who wants quality work done on their boat. It appears that no job is too small and no job too big as their web site will attest.
