Premium Club with History and Location

Reviewed Sep 2016
This club is not especially warm or welcoming to new members, but has extensive reciprocation, so if the social aspect is important you may want to consider reciprocation with other clubs as an alternative option. A little more corporatised than other clubs but if quality of social connections and facilities is important, this club might be your pick as it's well funded. There are three clubs in the immediate area (Royal Brighton, Royal Melbourne (St Kilda), and Sandringham YC. Sandringham YC is the most accessible but does not reciprocate.

Brighton belle

Recently revamped with the removal of the boat yard and the development of large outdoor and undercroft storage areas for sailing dinghies. The renovations include a spacious and stylish indoor/outdoor cafe open to the public and members alike. Perhaps one of the only clubs on the bay that actively encourages passers-by to drop in for a coffee or meal. The club is pitching for junior sailing as a hedge to the future and appears to be having some success. The floating marina is well sheltered by a rock wall to the south and west and a wave attentuator to the north. The staff is helpful and efficient and the members - mostly - as friendly as any other club. There's a good racing program and an active cruising section. Oh, and great views of the bay from the balcony.

This yacht club has recently dismantled the beyond repair slipway and haul out yard and replaced it with expanded off the beach facilities and a new restaurant and outdoor eating area. Non members are very welcome and there are plenty of elite dingy sailors now enjoying the protected water inside the marina. stop by and check it out.
