Great Sandy Straights Marina
Reviewed Jul 2015
On our trip North in 2015 we returned to Urangan and berthed at the Great Sandy Straights Marina. This is a well managed marina and well protected from all winds. The berths are well maintained with power and water to each berth. You can tell you are getting further north with the amount of catamaran berths that are available. In cruising season I would strongly suggest to contact the marina to confirm a berth as it can get quite busy at peak season. The Toilets and showers are very clean and tidy. The office has recently moved from a floating office to an office in the shops just adjacent the marina. A car is available for short term hire with the main shopping centre only a short ten minute drive. There is a plethora shops to cater for all your needs with a large Stocklands with major shops within. Local to the Marina is a excellent tavern, Boat Club cafes and restaurants. We have found the berthing costs very reasonable $65 a night casual for a 12 metre catamaran then it gets cheaper the longer you stay. Hervey Bay Airport is no more than a 5 to 10 minute cab drive away. We have caught a flight from the airport to Sydney and the service is excellent. If you are cruising north, looking for a longer term base or just holidaying in the area this is an excellent place to base your self. Deb and Bob Rafters are doing an exceptional job managing the marina and make you very welcome.
