Cove Marine - Haul out and boatyard

What a great place. We have only just relaunched after spending two weeks on the hard replacing our Yanmar Engines and sail drives. Cove Marine is located at the southern end of Pt Stephens in Oyster Cove. Access is via a well marked channel but for deeper draught vessels the tide is crucial to enter and exit. When we arrived the 'boys' were already waiting to grab our lines and haul our 12 metre catamaran out on their custom trailer.

There is an induction that you must undertake regarding OH & S as well working practices IE no dry sanding of antifoul and drop sheets on ground when antifouling but these are for your own safety and care of the environment. The location is a bit isolated and you really need a car to get around but the on site office has a reasonably stocked range of boating maintenance items. A big bonus is that you are allowed to stay on your boat overnight which saves travelling considerably. The toilet and showers are dated but are kept very clean and tidy. Cheap accommodation is nearby at Lemon Tree Passage if you require a bit more comfort.

There is a mechanic and shipwright on site who are super friendly and who I found very helpful. While the initial haulout was on the higher side it did include the jet wash and for a small amount more a more invasive jet wash which will blow the majority of your old antifoul off. The daily rate was cheaper compared to other holiest. (A new treatment work/recycling system ensures that no toxins enter the water table and the water can be recycled) Overall the total cost for our entire stay was on par if to cheaper in the end than where we used to haul out. We found nothing was to much trouble and the hourly rates were very reasonable when we used the shipwright. Philip, Mick and Elaine were an absolute pleasure to deal with which has ensured our return. Cove marine also has long term hardstand for those on a passage wishing to leave their boat secure. The view is not bad either if staying on your boat overnight.
