More than up to the challenge of big seas and wind

There are few better places to put a cruising boat through its paces than Antigua, and not just because of the sun and sand. Leave the harbor, and depending on the conditions, you can soon find yourself dealing with big winds and even bigger seas—all of which was fine with the Bavaria Cruiser 33. Indeed, there were a few times I couldn’t help wishing the crew’s stomachs were as tough as the boat.

Admittedly, the rationale for hoisting a gennaker on a boat like the Bavaria Cruiser 33 in 30 knots of breeze might merit some discussion. But fact is, it works, and surprisingly easily, too. Surfing down the waves full-speed at close to 12 knots is new to Bavaria product manager Daniel Kohl, who called it “record-breaking."
