What a weekend! The first ever 'Gathering on the Bay' for Women Who Sail Australia was an incredible success. Held at the new Broughtons at the Bay function venue at d'Albora Marinas Nelson Bay, the two day event welcomed 14 speakers and over 110 guests who came together to learn, socialise and motivate one another.
The Deckee team was extremely grateful for the opportunity to support such an inspiring group of women who are constantly challenging themselves on the water, taking the helm and breaking down stereotypes.
The community spirit in the room over the weekend was something very special and hard to find.
On Saturday evening, Deckee assembled a special guest panel to talk about the challenges that women in sailing face in 2016. Deckee's Communications Manager and round-the-world sailor Jessica Watson lead the panel, which included Kristi Foster from Sailors with Disabilities, popular author Linda Frylink Anderson and Lisa Blair, who is currently preparing to become the first female to circumnavigate Antarctica solo. Despite the big crowd, you could hear a pin drop in the room as the ladies shared their stories with a captivated audience.
Women Who Sail Australia members also raised a grand total of $2536 for their nominated charities, Sailors with Disabilities and Marine Rescue Port Stephens.
Deckee also wishes to extend a big thanks to the team at Port Stephens Tourism for their support in making this event a reality. We're excited for next year!
